With the new year came a new project - to illustrate an idea by bee expert and publisher, Valerie Rhenius, for a children's educational book about a honey bee's foraging adventures out from its hive around the local English countryside.

For the past few months I have been discovering much more about bees, working with bee expert and publisher, Valerie Rhenius, on an exciting project creating a children's book about a honey bee's adventures across the countryside in search of food - a special book with traditional watercolour illustrations in celebration of the National Honey Shows' Centenary 2023.

Bird Art : from the Garden There are a number of British birds that visit the garden daily for the abundance of naturally growing berries and seeds - and it's a good way to get ideas for later watercolours and drawings of birds. The main features were added with soft pastels to create some form to work with. Watercolour Bird Painting : Green Parakeet

Bird watercolour paintings. Painting animals and birds in detail can be intensive work due to the amount of focus required to, first, 'see' the detail and, then, 'capture' it, in the required medium. A short break from such work can be a useful way to restore energy and bring focus back to the right level of detail. Different art styles - detailed to loose watercolours.
